GAW
GAW stands for Galvanized After Weaving, and it's a term that's usually used in the chain link fence industry, where some types of mesh might be produced this way.
Chicken wire and hexagonal mesh are also commonly made this way, and in fact, when you look at the twists between the mesh openings, you can often see the zinc deposits collected in the spaces between the wires.
While this type of galvanizing does give the wire mesh some corrosion protection, it's often a less precise way to do this, and it might leave some areas with less zinc coating. However, on the other side of the coin, GAW mesh is protected everywhere - even on the cut edges of the wire.
