If you live in North America and you want to buy chain link fence material – either for a DIY fence project or to hire an installer, you’re in the right place.

We’ve created an easy-to-use chain link fence material calculator that will give you a list of all the parts and pieces you need for your fence.

How to Use Our Chain Link Fence Calculator

Our chain link fence calculator is really easy to use! Simply enter the number of corners, ends, and gates on your fence line. Select your fence height, and then enter the length of up to 10 fence lines.

The calculator will automatically generate a list of all the major parts of a chain link fence (as per our handy downloadable fence drawing.)

You can then use this list to purchase your fence materials from a local fence supplier.

Important Notes

We have not included a specification with this calculator, because there are so many options. Your fence supplier should be able to advise you which materials will work best for your project.

Typical chain link line post spacing in North America is 10 feet, so that is what our calculator is based on.

We have not included any waste material or concrete in our calculator, but we do recommend that you purchase a few extra fittings for your project just in case you lose one or two along the way! This will also give you spares to replace parts in future if necessary.

Also note that some chain link suppliers only sell chain link mesh in full rolls, so you might need to round up to the next full roll.

This chain link fence calculator is not based on a fence that’s in concrete or base plated – so it’s up to you to decide how you want to install your fence, and to adjust the specification, as necessary.

Finally, a disclaimer: we’ve done our best to make this chain link fence calculator as accurate as possible, however, individual sites may differ. Please do not use this material list to place an order with first double checking with a fence specialist in your area. There may be additional requirements for your project, based on your specific needs.
