Self-locking gate latch (metal)

Self-locking gate latch (metal)

A self-locking gate latch is a gate latch that has a spring-loaded or gravity-driven latch that is installed on the gate post, which is activated by a metal pin installed on the gate.

This kind of latch is most often used on wood or vinyl gates, although they can also be used on pool fencing and other kinds of gates.

While these latches are sometimes called self-locking, and while the latch portion of the gate latch is designed not to open when the gate is pulled or pushed to open it, without activating the lever, it's important to remember that they can be opened when the lever is activated, and as such, they are not truly self-locking, but rather self-latching.

If you want to lock this kind of gate latch, you will still need to add a padlock to the latch system.
